Heritage

2,000 Years of Living Walls

Limewash is among the oldest surface finishes known to civilization. The Phoenicians and Romans used slaked lime for mortars, frescoes, and protective coatings across the Mediterranean. In Sicily, this tradition never stopped.

Our limewash is handcrafted in Sicily with mineral pigments. The finish designers choose. A chalky, luminous surface that breathes with the room and only gets more beautiful with time.

Application

One Product. Five Surface Scenarios.

Bare plaster, drywall, brick, or stone: Apply directly — no primer needed. The natural porosity of these surfaces provides excellent adhesion. Simply ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free of loose material.

New drywall (unpainted): Apply directly after the drywall compound has fully cured. No primer required — the raw surface bonds naturally with lime.

Previously painted — matte water-based paint: Light sanding (120–150 grit) to create tooth, then apply directly. No primer needed if the existing paint is well-adhered and not peeling.

Previously painted — satin, eggshell, or gloss water-based: Sand thoroughly (80–120 grit) to break the sheen and create mechanical adhesion. Apply one coat and assess adhesion before proceeding with the full application.

Previously painted — oil-based or high-gloss: Heavy sanding required. For best results on these surfaces, apply a mineral silicate primer before limewash to ensure proper bonding. Contact us for guidance on challenging substrates.

Apply with a large brush or roller in a single coat. No sealer, no topcoat — pure simplicity. The chalky, luminous finish develops naturally as the lime carbonates over the first few weeks.
