About this finish
Venetian Plaster
What it is
Venetian plaster is a centuries-old Italian wall finish: a lime-putty stucco spread over the wall in thin coats with a steel trowel, then polished — burnished — by hand until the surface takes on a marble-like sheen. Because the color and the shine live in the material itself, not in a coat of paint, the finished wall has a depth and movement that shifts with the light through the day. ATRIA's family has two finishes: Stucco Veneziano M, the long-seasoned lime-putty stucco burnished to a smooth, almost mirror-like surface, and Stucco Siciliano, a marbled stucco built for depth and veining rather than reflection.
Why choose it
- Real lime, real polish: Veneziano M is made from long-seasoned lime putty and is self-polishing — the gloss is burnished out of the material itself, not sprayed on as a clear coat, which is where the depth comes from.
- A practical surface, not just a pretty one: cured Veneziano M is washable, breathable, resistant to mold and bacteria, and rated Class 0 non-combustible (per the product TDS).
- Any color you can point to: 16 studio colors plus custom tinting on Veneziano M, and Siciliano can be matched to virtually any reference — so the finish follows your palette, not the other way around.
How it’s applied
- 01The wall is repaired, smoothed, and primed with Isoacryl sealer, which needs about 3-4 hours to dry before plastering starts.
- 02A first thin coat is spread with a stainless steel trowel to fill and level the surface, then lightly sanded once dry.
- 03After roughly 4-5 hours, the finish coat goes on, worked in sections of about 20-30 square feet (2-3 m²) at a time.
- 04While that coat is still setting, the applicator burnishes it — passing a clean trowel over the surface again and again until the sheen comes up.
- 05Veneziano M is dry to the touch in 1-2 hours and fully dry in 24-48 hours; Siciliano dries in 12-18 hours and adds a fine 1500-grit sanding, then a light spatula burnish while the coat is still open.
